Our new head of design, Kathryn Sukey, knows handbags.
When she came to Draper James, she knew she wanted to create a handbag collection that was equal parts functional, versatile, and unapologetically pretty. And she’s done just that.
From a Leather Satchel inspired by our Draper James signature blue, to a Leather Half Moon Wristlet that’s the perfect addition to an on-the-go lifestyle, Kathryn’s handbags will be wardrobe staples for years to come.
We wanted to introduce you to some of our favorites, so Kathryn put together a list of the styles she’ll bring to work, date night, a concert, brunch, and weekend errands —plus, her tips for what to wear with each!
The Best Bag to Bring to Work
Kathryn’s Pick: Leather Reversible Tote
“I bring my lunch and my shoes to change into every day–this bag will fit my lunch, my shoe change, and any work papers and magazines I need to bring back and forth.”
How to style it:
“I’d use the collar stud closure to convert the tote into a satchel and style it with the Button Front Chambray Skirt, the What Would Dolly Do Tee (coming back in stock soon!), some camel suede heels, and a hot pink lip.”
The Best Bag to Bring to Date Night
Kathryn’s Pick: Leather Half Moon Wristlet in Draper Blue
“I can leave my big bag at work and just use this little clutch for a sleek and polished date-night look.”
How to style it:
“I’d carry it like a clutch rather than a wristlet and wear it with the Lace A-line Dress, a navy blazer from my closet, my navy suede Stuart Weitzman knee boots, and add a hot pink lip, of course.”
The Best Bag to Bring to a Concert
Kathryn’s Pick: Leather Crossbody in Camel
“I need a hands-free bag so I can dance the night away! It also fits everything I need: lipstick, phone, wallet, and keys.”
How to style it:
“I’d pair the Shawl Collar Cardigan with a silk cami from my closet and the High Waisted Boot Cut Jean with my pink, metallic Marc Jacobs ankle booties. As for other accessories, I’ll put on my Jenny Bird BOSS Hoops, and any concert requires a pop of red lipstick.”
The Best Bag to Bring to Brunch
Kathryn’s Pick: Leather Satchel
“I love a good elbow hold satchel, and the pretty color block layout is a conversation starter.”
How to style it:
“Anything chambray would go perfectly with the Leather Satchel. If I want to dress brunch up a bit, I’ll put on either the Chambray Shirtdress or Chambray Faux Wrap Dress, my Jimmy Choo pink suede ankle strap kitty heels, and a soft, pink lip.”
The Best Bag to Bring on Weekend Errands
Kathryn’s Pick: Leather Tote in Nassau Navy
“I love the Leather Tote because it’s not too big, but it fits everything I need to run my errands and then stop by the playground with the kiddos.”
How to style it:
“Don’t be afraid to have a little fun, especially with a neutral bag. I’d pair the Embroidered Skirt with the Printed Heart Tee and a denim jacket from my closet. As always, I’d add a bright red lip, too!”
