Ever since we opened our Draper James Dallas boutique, we’ve been fascinated with Dallas fashion. Savvy, pulled-together, and never shy about dressing up, Dallas gals own their brand of Southern style.
Chief among our favorite Dallas style darlings are the trio of sisters behind fashion and lifestyle blog The Perennial Style. Blair Flowers Butler, Ellen Flowers, and Janie Flowers are beautiful and chic (and they’ve been sharing a wardrobe since they were children!), but they each rock their own individual styles. We gave them a go at our new Draper James January collection, and it was great fun to see how they styled it.
Blair Flowers Butler kicks us off today, with Ellen Flowers coming up on Thursday and Janie Flowers on Friday.
In 15 words or less, describe your personal style.
Classic, timeless investment pieces paired with fun accessories and a great handbag!
How do you think your style stands out from that of your sisters?
I think I’ve always been the sister who has gravitated toward investment pieces in my wardrobe. Even from a young age, I would choose one nice item instead of the trendy items. For example, when we went to Hawaii in middle school, our granddad gave us “fun money” for souvenirs, and I bought my first Louis Vuitton purse. To this day, I carry it occasionally! Finding one item I love is my favorite way to shop, whereas Ellen came home from that trip with all sorts of Hawaiian leis and tropical cover-ups!
What drew you to the Draper James Ottoman Stripe Sweater Jacket and how did you style it?
First off, from the first time I walked into the Draper James Dallas store, it was immediate that this was my new go-to brand. The atmosphere is so inviting and the pieces are so preppy with a whimsical twist! I love the patterns and the trendy take on classic silhouettes. I adore the sporty but feminine look of the Ottoman Stripe Sweater Jacket—and pairing it with white flair jeans was a no-brainer.
Any style tips or rules you can share about dressing for this time of year?
Layers! My go-to look is jeans, riding boots, a cute blouse and a fun jacket or scarf! This look is practical with the unpredictable Dallas weather, but it is also comfortable and chic!
How would you describe Dallas style?
Dallas is trendy. Dallas is also very dressy, and there is always an excuse to put on a cute outfit and hit the town. I love how versatile this city is, style-wise—from very high fashion to also Southern preppy style.
What’s your favorite “Southernism”?
