Reese Witherspoon on the Most Important Thing Her Mama Taught Her

Today (and really, every day) we want to let our mamas know just how much we love them and appreciate them.

After all, they’re the ones who taught us our manners, made sure we knew right from wrong, and showed us the proper way to make cornbread–in a skillet, of course.

We could keep listing all the things our mothers taught us, but we thought we’d let Reese Witherspoon herself tell you what her mother, Betty, taught her.

And if there’s anyone who can teach an important lesson, it’s Betty Witherspoon.

Hear from Reese below, and then go call or hug your own mama! Happy Mother’s Day, y’all!

What’s the most important lesson your mom taught you about being a mother?

Reese: The most important thing my mother taught me is get to know your children as individuals.

They are all unique in their own ways. Learn what makes them happy, what makes them feel special in this world, and encourage those parts of them that are unique and different.

In this day and age, what’s the most critical thing you think mothers should know about raising their children?

Reese: My mother also taught me to practice humor and gratitude every day. Humor and gratitude go a long way.

We say grace every night before dinner and talk about what we are grateful for. It’s a really important daily practice to our family.
