The next tailgate we’re headed to during Draper James Spirit Week is the one hosted by Michiel Perry of Black Southern Belle.
A Howard University alum and South Carolina resident, Michiel decked out her tailgate tabletop with all things red and blue.
1. Why did you choose these colors? Which team do you support?
I chose these colors to support my alma mater of Howard University. I love being an HU Alum and homecoming season is my favorite time of year.
2. What’s your favorite part of football season/tailgating?
Getting to catch up with family and friends no matter where I am at. My alma mater is in DC, so I can’t always make it for tailgating but I love to do tailgating at home to support my school and invite local alum to my homes.
3. Do you have any specific tailgate traditions?
My favorite tailgate traditions are to create a unique cocktail that matches my school colors and to make my favorite wings that have been marinated overnight in soda. I also binge watch as many Whitley Gilbert scenes as I can.
4. Do you have a favorite football movie?
Remember the Titans. Denzel is my favorite football coach in my head and love the story of the team. Can watch it any day of the week.
5. How did you choose to style these pieces?
I love being comfortable for tailgate but as a Southern girl, I always need a little fun.
I paired my cape with a loose cream-colored ruffle neck top and my trusty leggings, along with a mid heel brown boot and simple earrings.
I wanted to make sure my cape and my tote bags were the start of my outfits, nothing like showing my Howard University colors. On both my bag and my tote I added a the Draper James pennant and you can never go wrong with some flowers for a little fun as well.
6. Do you have any fun plans for football season this year?
I can’t make it to my college homecoming this year due to my travel schedule, so I am hoping to have a big tailgate party at my house with a few friends to be there in spirit.
