Style School: A Pinch of Lovely Mixes Florals & Stripes

Leave it to Krystal Faircloth to style Draper James with bold yet breezy panache.

This Baton Rouge-based blogger, who pens the addictive style blog A Pinch of Lovely, is expert at taking a cute item and working it into a chic fashion moment. She rocked Draper James on the 4th of July last summer, and took us along again on a recent trip to Charleston, where she flawlessly paired our stripes and flower print.

See how she did it:

First, tell us about your Charleston trip.
A friend and I were looking to take a fun girls’ trip somewhere warm, and I had never been to Charleston before. It was the perfect excuse to make this bucket list item happen!

We love the Draper James outfit you put together. What drew you to these pieces individually and as a look?
The fluted sleeves on this top are such a whimsical spin on a wardrobe staple. I love how they add a little unexpected fun to classic stripes. I fell hard for the pink floral patterns on these shorts, and the scallop hem adds a ladylike touch that’s easy to dress up or down.

Let’s talk about mixing prints. Love the look, but it can be hard to pull off. Any tips?
I like to use stripes as a neutral because they pair particularly well with floral patterns. If you’re wanting to try pattern mixing, I always suggest trying one of your favorite striped tops as a base!

Any tips when it comes to dressing (and packing) for a long weekend away?
I like to pack basics that can be worn multiple ways. For example, I brought this striped top to wear with shorts during the day and was easily able to swap out with white jeans and heels for dinner. The same with the shorts—adding a white top with ankle strap heels would instantly dress them up for night.

Can you share three highlights of your Charleston trip?
The first full day we were there, we went on a walking tour. I highly suggest taking some sort of tour right when you get there because hearing the history of the city will totally change your perspective as you walk around during the rest of your trip! For food, I thought Xiao Bao Biscuit was such a fun, laid back dinner experience. And our stay at Zero George Hotel was one of the best hotel experiences that I’ve ever had. I’m already trying to plan when I’m going back. My Charleston recap can be found here.

Can you tell us about Sugar Bakeshop in Charleston, where you shot these images?
Sugar Bakeshop was recommended to us for a sweet afternoon treat, and we definitely deserved one after all of the walking we did! We ordered a sampling of their cupcakes; pistachio was delicious! It’s a little off-the-beaten path, but super cute!
