When it comes to getting ready for Christmas parties, Draper James girls know a thing or two about looking their best.
Whether it’s a work holiday party, a casual get-together between friends, or an all-out festive cocktail dress affair, Southern women are usually some of the best-dressed women in the room.
We spoke to three of these stylish women–Nashville’s Katie Jacobs, Charleston’s Alexandra of The Beach Belle and Sarah of Hello Darling, and Saint Petersburg’s Sarah Hunt–to get their rules (and faux pas!) for holiday dressings.
Read their tips on chic, comfortable, and elegant party looks below.
And if all else fails? Put on a nice red lip and smile!

What’s your number one tip for getting dressed for a holiday party?
Keep it classic. Rich textures like suede, lace, and velvet create an elevated look for a special occasion. Classic silhouettes are both timeless and great staples in your closet. Black, white, red, and jewel tones are always perfect for the holidays.
Is there a holiday dressing faux pas you should avoid?
Keep it comfortable. Make sure your skirt isn’t too short to open presents on the floor with your kids, your waistline isn’t too tight to eat dessert, and your shoes aren’t too high to dance all night!

What’s your number one tip for getting dressed for a holiday party?
When it come to the holiday season, there’s no such thing as too much sparkle! This is our chance to wear sequins and rhinestones, so why not take it?! Also, find materials that catch the light to help you glow in photos (like the gorgeous silk Draper James Collection Stripe Dress).
Is there a holiday dressing faux pas you should avoid?
Skip the slouchy bags and totes, and use a chic clutch to tie it all together for an elegant holiday look.

What’s your number one tip for getting dressed for a holiday party?
Above everything, always wear something you feel great wearing. If you feel beautiful, you will look beautiful! This time of year, especially, I love adding a bit of sparkle!
Is there a holiday dressing faux pas you should avoid?
You can avoid making a fashion faux pas by being true to yourself. If you dress for the holidays in your own style, you will look confident and comfortable!

Never wear something you don’t feel comfortable in. Choose an outfit that is classic, stylish, and timeless, and that makes you feel like the best version of yourself!
