On Ali: Spirit Sweater Cape
We can’t believe it’s football season! In celebration of our favorite time of year, we reached out to a tailgating expert, Ali Schilling from the blog A Dash of Details. She’s a University of Kansas alumna and wife of an ex-football player. Needless to say, she knows a thing or two about tailgating.
After college Ali and her husband moved down to Dallas, so they’re usually cheering on their team from afar. We asked Ali to give us her tips for a winning game day.

How important is game day to you?
During the fall, our weekend social engagements always revolve around football. We love hosting game day parties at our house with all the fixins’!
Why did you choose this outfit for your tailgate party?
My number one rule of tailgating is to always have a cute and spirited outfit. This darling poncho in my alma mater’s colors is perfect! I paired it with my favorite skinny jeans and flats, but it will also be so cute in late fall with tan boots when the weather cools off.

What is your favorite tailgate beverage?
I love serving refreshing Palomas made with fresh grapefruit juice and a splash of Topo Chico. Cheers y’all!
What are your favorite finger foods to serve at a tailgate party?
Give me dips! I’m not the most skilled chef in the kitchen, but I can whip up a mean pimento cheese and a delicious warm spinach and artichoke dip. And I am known to make the best guacamole around. Here’ s my signature recipe:
Ingredients:
4 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
1 cup grape tomatoes, diced
1 white onion, peeled and chopped
1 jalapeño, stem removed and chopped (wear gloves for this!)
Finely chopped fresh cilantro to taste
Juice of one lime
Salt to taste
Instructions:
Mash up the ripe avocados into a large bowl, then add tomatoes, onion, jalapeño, and cilantro. Mix well and then add the lime juice and salt to taste. Garnish with a few tomatoes on top and y’all are done!
