We first met Amy Havins when she joined us at the opening of our Draper James Dallas boutique—though we’ve actually been following her fashion for years now. Amy, who is Dallas born and bred, shares her modern Southern style and shopping finds on Dallas Wardrobe, a popular blog (and Insta) we can’t get enough of.
We tasked Amy with styling a Draper James holiday party look. Needless to say, she was up for the challenge.

What drew you to the Draper James Kirby Coat and Amelia Dress and how did you style them?
When I saw this Draper James amaryllis print dress and this classic black jacket, I knew that they would be the perfect pieces to wear to holiday festivities as well as events post holiday! Since the dress is a statement piece on it’s own, I decided to keep my accessories simple to let the dress be the start of the look.
To what kind of holiday event would you wear this look?
I envisioned this look at everything from a holiday brunch to an evening get-together. I love that this dress screams holiday, yet it’s perfect to wear post holiday as well.
Any “rules” for holiday dressing?
Honestly, I wear whatever I am feeling. The best part about the holiday season is that you can be over-dressed and no one bats an eye! It’s the perfect time of year to wear all of your favorite party dresses.
Favorite thing about the holiday season?
Family is such a big part of the holiday season for me, so I love all of the extra fun activities that we all do together (shopping, holiday lights, brunch, happy hours). We really do everything together.
The best thing about Dallas during the holidays?
One of my favorite holiday traditions is a carriage ride. We always grab coffee at Royal Blue before we ride around in a carriage looking at all of the pretty lights in the neighborhood! Also, although we love the Library Bar at The Mansion on Turtle Creek year round, my husband and I especially like to head there during the holidays after dinner for a glass of wine and to listen to the band play. The Mansion always goes all out with their holiday decor. There is something so magical about listening to holiday music in the most traditional and beautiful setting.
How do you spend Christmas?
We always spend Christmas Eve at my grandmother’s in Dallas. This is the night where whole family gets together for a special dinner and a gift exchange. My grandmother always goes above and beyond with everything, from the table settings to the meal she prepares (she’s 81 and still loves to be in the kitchen)!
