DJ on the Road: Hotel Covington in Covington, KY

The last stop on our virtual Southern summer road trip has us careening from Durham, NC, towards where the South meets the Midwest. Located just minutes from Cincinnati, the sparkling new Hotel Covington is set to open any day now. And we’re already booking a trip.

Proudly making its official home in Covington, KY (right nearby the state’s famous Bourbon Trail), this boutique hotspot features rich tailored rooms, an in-house gastro pub serving up clever takes on Southern classics, and an expansive outdoor courtyard fit for savoring summer’s final evenings.

Here’s what Hotel Covington General Manager, Jack Olshan, has to say about making the area your vacation destination.

What makes Covington, KY (and the nearby area) the perfect vacation spot?
Covington is a central location for so many things to do all season long, from walking around MainStrasse Village with its shops and restaurants, to enjoying the multitude of museums and cultural centers such as the Newport Aquarium, or Cincinnati Zoo. It’s fun to walk across the Roebling Suspension Bridge to Cincinnati to take in a Reds game and stroll along The Banks, where the stadium is situated along the Ohio River. You can also visit the many local breweries and distilleries in the area, with the Bourbon Trail not far away!

Your must-visit. . . Restaurant?
Our very own Coppin’s restaurant and bar, located here in the Hotel Covington! Coppin’s is a truly North-meets-South spot, with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Also in the area, I would say Salazar in Cincinnati. Jose Salazar is a great chef; his restaurant has a small menu that is interesting and delicious.

Bar?
Our bar at Coppin’s is definitely a must-visit for the Liquid Knowledge, our signature cocktail.

Shop?
Grainwell has amazing stuff; it’s run by three sisters who create laser-cut wood products.

Spot for some local culture or relaxation?
The Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal hosts the city’s Children’s Museum, OmniMax theater, and History Museum in a former passenger railroad station. But for relaxing, a sightseeing tour in a historic riverboat with BB Riverboats can’t be beat!

Place only a local would know?
KungFood Chu’s Amerasia is a place only a local would know; some of the best Chinese food on the planet is just down the street from Hotel Covington.

If we’re spending an afternoon or evening “in” at your hotel, what should we do?
Start out in the Courtyard playing outdoor games and listening to live music from local bands. Then continue into the glass-enclosed dining room at Coppin’s for a few shared plates before finishing the night under the stars in front of the fireplace with an after-dinner drink back at the Courtyard.
